Examples of Good Practice from Kenyon College

Student Association for Voter Empowerment (SAVE)

We are particularly proud, at Kenyon, of the work of one of our students to promote democratic values and especially participation by young people in the democratic process. Matthew Segal, who graduated from Kenyon last year, became an activist for democracy as a result of his voting experience in the 2004 presidential election. He founded an organization at Kenyon—Student Association for Voter Empowerment (SAVE)—which now has more than 25 chapters on college campuses nationwide. Its purpose is to promote not only voter registration by young people but, importantly, to promote civic engagement and understanding.
