Examples of Good Practice from Montana Campus Compact

The Montana Campus Compact encourages civic engagement and intercultural understanding through all of its programs. Most specifically, MTCC convenes a Building Engaged Citizens conference for students each autumn. College students from two- and four-year public, private, tribal, and community colleges come together for a 3 day gathering of leadership training, civic dialogue, service projects, and skill building workshops. Campus teams make plans and outline their plans for the academic year. National service members such as VISTAs and AmeriCorps members, as well as, students-at-large discuss and plan their local activities and events which may include home-build projects for low-income populations, diabetes awareness workshops for tribal communities, community garden projects, after-school literacy initiatives, academic mentoring programs, river clean-ups, forest trail maintenance, and serving elderly populations, to name a few. Each campus team is provided training and resources to create a strategic plan and implement activities.
